The Dharma Door

There is possibly nothing Dwell loves more than a handcrafted woven bag, you know - the market type.  I tote my french market basket to our local Farmers market each week to fill with goodies, it also comes with me to the beach and often to work, I just jam it full with my laptop, notebooks, magazines, lunch and the like.

Then I knocked on The Dharma Door so to speak.  It was founded by Shannon Sheedy, an intrepid world traveller who had a vision to bring beautifully crafted artisan bags, baskets and homewares into our homes and lives.

Shannon is all about Fair Trade and carefully (and ethically) sources products from traditionally skilled makers who use time honoured traditions and the best raw materials to hand craft their products.  In return they receive much needed supplies and resources for their villages and their ancient crafts are kept alive, a win/win situation you could say.

No two products will be the same as they are lovingly handmade and each piece tells a story.  All images via The Dharma Door

Trend Alert - Flamingo Fever

You probably are already aware of the latest trend - flamingo fever!  Love it or hate it - it's taking over.  I kind of like it's quirkiness, I used to love seeing them parked on peoples front lawns in the 70's along with the big butterfly on the wall next to the front door.  I remember thinking that the people who lived in THOSE houses were so exotic and must have been very well travelled to even know such birds existed!  So how do you use this current trend?  Well of course it's totally up to you but the image below gave me a little inspiration...

Cabana Jo's in Berry, NSW South Coast

The yellow shop called 'Cabana Jo's' is found off the main street of Berry very near The Tea Shop and Art House Berry - Shop 1, 68 Albert Street. There seems to be a common theme of our favourite shops being layered with finds!

Jo has had her business for over 10 years and has a good eye for trends and the unusual in homewares, decorator items, lighting, candles and jewellery. The range is diverse with locally made & hand-poured soy candles from Mason & Soy to Ahoy Trader, Ourlieu, Noosa Amsterdam chunks, Bam Bam bowls, Cultiver Linen ... and so much more.

Home Thyme

While out and about I finally fell upon a lovely homewards shop that I had been hearing a lot about, 'Home Thyme' in Albion Park.

IMG_2621.JPG

Not only do they stock furniture in quite a few different styles they also have gorgeous homewares and I must admit to being quite taken with all the bright coloured accessories such as this yellow striped ceramic canister with wooden lid...
