'A Corner of Eden' is to be found in Cumbria in the North West of England. Within this county are 6 districts and Eden is one.

I was lucky enough to visit 'A Corner of Eden' in September of 2013 and would say 'stay here' !  There are 3 types of accommodation and we filled them all. There was 16 of us in total and we all had a bed ... if you've ever had to book for this many people you will know how tricky it can be. And what a success 'A Corner of Eden' was for us!

The owners concentrated on being as environmentally friendly as possible during the renovation work over the years; local suppliers, naturally occurring materials, low emissions, up-cycling, re-utilising, recycling, natural products, good insulation, draught exclusion to mention but a few.

Sustainable heat in the barn and electricity throughout, sheep's wool insulation, private water supply and drainage, composting, grow your own, local produce....

It's not possible to be perfect but it is possible to try your hardest which is exactly what they do.

Every room was special .. the attention to detail, the effort to modernise but be creative and sympathetic to the era is evident everywhere. I gave it 10 out of 10 .... so did the other 15 !

5 of the best - Dining Tables

It's time for a new dining table.  Our dutiful and lovely old table has had its share of knocks, scratches and bumps (not to mention nail polish remover, water marks and sun-fade) and now it's time to start looking for a replacement.  I know what look I like (country meets rustic meets french with a bit of industrial thrown in) but where to begin?  A wee bit of research has revealed 5 winning tables, now the decision is which one is up for a fair few years of love and attention?

As we slowly creep through Autumn towards Winter I love to cosy up the house in readiness for cooler days and nights.  A scroll through some favourite images of eclectic country decor has me feeling not so sad that summer has come and gone and has me looking forward to spending time indoors.  How are you going to spend your winter?  Out and about enjoying the crisp cool air or tucked up inside beside the fire with a good book and endless movies...

Flowers brighten up any living space even in winter, if you haven't got the real thing in your garden why not opt for silk flowers, they are so realistic these days you can hardly tell the difference.

Rugs can help warm up a room.  Persian style rugs introduce colour and pattern as well as defining 'zones' within your space.  Timeless and elegant, they suit most types of decor.  And don't forget throw blankets to keep you warm as well as to add some interest to your sofa.

Or you may like a little 'granny' rag rug, don't be afraid to layer your rugs (as long as they aren't too thick or fluffy) for a relaxed look.  However you do it, enjoy your South Coast winter, it won't be around long and before you know it summer skies will be overhead again.
