Many Australians live not far from the coast so Christmas tends to be laid back and relaxed. Coastal Christmas decorating conjurs up a colour scheme of blues, aquas, white and neutrals. Often we pack up the family and head off on holiday for a coastal Christmas. Whether you are at home or away on vacation for Christmas you have all the decorating elements you need at your fingertips. Scavenge the beach for shells and starfish to decorate your tree or table, use sand instead of glitter but most of all just enjoy the atmosphere, food and fun of a beach christmas!
As Interior Decorators and Stylists we embrace all interior styles and Scandinavian Style is one of our favourites. It's fresh, clean and neutral and because of this it's really easy to adapt to suit our clients here on the beautiful South Coast of NSW. Many of our clients have re-located from the city to enjoy life here on the Coast and need some direction when incorporating existing furniture into a new home and style of living.
Scandinavian Style is a good base to start building a new interior. It's white walls and sometimes painted timber floors suit our location wonderfully. To warm it up your decor and give it depth add some rustic touches - it stops your interior from becoming too stark.
Collect old wares and interesting items along with driftwood, shells (don't overdo it - just a small collection or a couple of jars full in different sizes), rope and leaves.
Sisal rugs add textural interest as do baskets and why not bring some outdoor chairs in?
Keeping your coastal interior tone on tone makes for a relaxing home or holiday house.
Think about repurposing items, for example an old door makes a great coffee table.
And in the cooler months... just add some fur, throws and blankets to warm up your beach house for the winter holidays.
