The 127th Annual Berry Show - woop woop

The 127th Annual Berry Show starts Friday 30th January for 2 days of country fun that includes cattle, horses, food, wine, The Berry Showgirl Competition - Good luck Heather - and soo much more. Click on the orange words above to find out more. It all ends on the Saturday night in a flurry of fireworks.

Below is a peek at 4 photographs that I have entered in the Photography Section 30. By the time you read this the Judges will have scanned their evil eyes over the submissions & awarded 1st or 2nd to the Entrants. I stress I have not entered to receive the $10 or $5 prize money ;) It's just for the fun of it. The relevant sections the photos are entered in are written below each photo. Our 13 year old will be entering the hay stacking competition with a mate - whose younger sister will have to climb the tower of bales!

Dwell In a Day

We often write about other businesses on the NSW South Coast in locations such as Milton, Berry, Gerringong, Kiama, Port Kembla, Coledale and Thirroul. We write about boutiques, cafes, florists .... we have an extensive list of 'must see' places but we're not telling what's next - not yet!

So I figured we should write a little about ourselves and some of what we do. When we visit a Client we ask them about who lives in the home, what their lifestyle is like, what their interests are, what colours they like & it's important to know what they don't like too! We look at the orientation of the house, sunlight, environment & the age of the house. The client often gives us a full tour of their home, sometimes a cup of coffee & then we get our brief. Usually the Client has a good idea of what they want but ... well ... they're a bit stuck!

Being so familiar with your own home it's often refreshing to get someone else to cast their eye over the conundrum, offer their educated opinion, gather their advise and set off in a renewed direction.

Alternatively Clients can come to one of our Work Shops. These gatherings are a mix of home owners, renovators and lovers of  homewares. Below are some mood boards put together during a WorkShop we held earlier in the year in Berry

Warm Your Home with Art

Kathy Karas, Della Hodgett & Karen Butler live and paint in and around the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.  They have combined forces to present a joint body of work at Art House Berry. We went along to the opening of their exhibition to meet the artists, mingle with friends of Art house & to collect ideas for Dwell Clients. Below are some examples of their work and a a short introduction written by Katrina from Art House.

Della Hodgett is a versatile and eclectic artist who can paint and draw in most mediums but particularly likes to work in oil. Della lives on the South Coast of New South Wales where she delights in the familiar lush greens and blues of coastal sea, hills and trees. The opportunities for landscape painting are endless but she also likes to work figuratively, drawing on her numerous pen and ink sketches for inspiration.

Karen is an emerging artist from Shellharbour, NSW specialising in printmaking and painting. Her art is inspired by the beauty of the natural world, particularly the interplay of light, shadow and colour and their effects on the emotions. She is drawn towards botanical themes, still life and the flora and fauna of the Australian bush. She also enjoys painting in oils and acrylic, watercolours, collage and mixed media.

South Coast artist Kathy Karas paints in oil, acrylic and watercolour the scenery of the stunning coastal and rural areas between Austinmer and Ulladulla. Her style can be described as modern impressionist with an interest in a wide range of subject matter including still life, landscape, figurative and old and historical buildings. Kathy’s paintings are in collections within Australia, Canada, The United States, France, the UK and Japan.

Art House is on Albert Street in Berry. It showcases Artists from the Shoalhaven and Illawarra area ... and is currently open every day while the above exhibition continues. Katrina and John will be travelling oversea at the end of June so Dwell South Coast will handle all enquiries during July - call us for an appointment.

And you could always add a locally made and deliciously scented Mason & Soy candle to your order (my fave is French Pear though the Mimosa & Mandarin is equally divine)...
