Home Tour - Chuck & Taz

Dwell have been thinking of a regular ‘Home Tour’ blog for some time.  We follow Chuck & Taz on Instagram (along with 17.2K of you) and noted how many other followers were begging for more images of owner Catherine’s home.  So just being just a short drive away we thought it a perfect place to start!

Located in the quaint little farming town of Jamberoo just 10 minutes inland from the coast it is the perfect combination of semi-rural, town and beach.

The large block had an existing house which was knocked down so that Catherine partner Mitch and daughters Mahala (5) and Indi (3) could build their dream home in the country.

Catherine & Mitch enlisted the help of a draughtsperson to help them design their new home keeping in mind their family, lifestyle and location.

A long lawn runs up to the front steps with the cottage exterior looking modern country with an industrial raw edge.   There are grey weatherboards and fresh white trim, wicker outdoors chairs that scream ‘sit on me’ and a rustic re-cycled brick wall hiding a fireplace to the right adding contrast and texture.

Stepping into the central hallway (which runs the length of the house) doesn’t give too much away at first but on looking closer the wall lights start to set the tone, industrial, rustic yet modern in design you start to get the feel that you are in for something special.

The engineered timber floors are a beautiful deep grey-brown oak, which feel warm and inviting underfoot and walls are painted throughout in Dulux Peplum ¼  giving a fresh modern feel.  The white backdrop means an easy change in décor and accessories should they wish to update their interior in the future.

Entering the master bedroom my eyes dart from the french doors to the brick fireplace then over to the freestanding bath hiding the Ensuite.  It’s so lovely I just don’t know where to look first!  It’s a large space, decadent but cosy - it’s a room you could easily never leave!  And judging by the wee dinosaur at the end of the bed it looks like it's not a room off limits to the younger family members...

The guest bedroom opposite is colourful yet elegant and relaxing with French doors opening to the front deck and views over the front lawn to the escarpment.

The laundry is one most of us could only dream about!  Loads of storage, shaker style cabinetry, open shelving, bamboo benchtop running the length of the room and still enough space to set up the ironing board!  The colour palette is soft white and grey both modern and classic.

Mahala’s bedroom is a cheerful, girly space for the modern miss!  The walk in wardrobe has plenty of storage and the room having white walls gives a great background to pops of bright colour.

Little Indi’s room is a cute and happy space with everything a 3 year old needs to keep entertained!  Lots of books and toys provide colourful accents and the 4 poster bed with its Alphabet Monkey bedding is a great focal point in the room.

The living space at the rear of the house has WOW factor with super high ceilings, stunning polished concrete floors and a feature wall of rustic re-cycled brick.  This entire space has 3 distinct living areas, the chill out seated area, dining and kitchen.  It’s a vast open space full of light with a distinct warehouse feel and is the families favourite space.  Thanks to the polished concrete floors, exposed brick and gorgeous fabric light shades it is welcoming and warm.

A black industrial look staircase leads to a mezzanine area currently Catherine’s photographic studio and semi play room for the girls but Mitch has his eye on this space for a future office (good luck Mitch) and tucked underneath is a cute little office nook.

The kitchen is stunning and simple.  A favourite feature is the abstract tiled Splashback and the oven – a black free standing induction range large enough to cater for an army.

The open shelving displays collections of copper and a walk in pantry big enough for 15 people to party in hides the fridge, dishwasher and there is loads of room for storage, prep and has another sink for washing up.

The living area opens onto a covered patio where Catherine & Mitch have plans to build a BBQ and outdoor kitchen for easy entertaining.

Perched just above the outdoor patio is Catherine’s studio where she designs her range of gorgeous pram liners.  It backs onto a mini forest and play area for Mahala & Indi complete with outdoor blackboard, swing set and sandpit of which Indi is currently obsessed with!

Catherine & Mitch have created a beautiful and happy home full of character and charm.  The most lovely home to entertain family and friends, and for their girls to grow up in.
