We arrived at 39 Wentworth Street, Port Kembla last week to visit .... well ... the shop across the road that was closed! But lucky for us we just happened to park in front of Duck Print. Our eyes were drawn to the images hanging on the walls behind the shop front. So we squashed our faces up against the glass to getting a better look. Whoops - spotted! The owner of the business opened the doors for us - said he was about to have a tea break but 'would we like to look around' ... would we ever! Tom Goulder, Master Printer, teacher and all round nice guy, showed us many works by talented artists, he answered our varied questions - such as 'how do you do that?', 'what is that?' and 'what does this do?' (technical stuff ya know) and then allowed us to take photos and generally hang out there for an hour or so. We met the other half of the business, Sue, who told us about plans to open a Gallery with a Cafe next door - bring it on :)
If you're keen to learn a technique you can attend evening or weekend courses. These include lithography, relief printing, etching, bookbinding and box making. Duck Print also run Summer and Winter schools in 1 week blocks.
So in true "DWELL " style we stayed as long as we could :) On our departure we were each given a magazine and waved farewell - it was all completely unexpected and the highlight of the day.
Thanks Tom and Sue ... we'll be back
