Diary of a Renovator - paint & wallpaper

Painting, ahhhhhhhhh. I actually quite like painting, well, walls that is, ceilings - not so much.

I had my colours picked pretty early on.  I was going for soft warm greys then I found a fabric I loved at Spotlight to recover my dining chairs, ottoman, sofa and headboard.  That changed everything.  I then had to go for warmer shades such as taupe.  And I knew I wanted a bolder taupe/green for the front lounge/tv room and our bedroom.

I ended up choosing Murobond Alabaster for the hall, kitchen and living/dining in the new extension.  The colour arrived and I loved it - painted 2 coats in the hall then realised it wasn't right.  They had left out the ombre tint - dang.  I had the tint send from Murobond and took the paint to The Paint Place in South Nowra (who are a Murobond stockist and the experts so I thought) so they could tint it for me. However they tinted the paint with their own tint telling me afterwards that the Murobond one had dried up - in fact it hadn't it, comes as as a powder and you mix it in - grrrrrr!!!  So if I run out of paint (which I did) how do I know if I am going to get the right colour again - very frustrating.

See what I mean - tint has been left out!!!!

So I slapped on the new colour and while I didn't love it as much as when it had the ombre tint missing I still really liked it and a few months down the track I can say I'm really happy with the warmer colour.

The front lounge/tv room and our bedroom was painted in Murobond 'Putty', a deep taupe/green.  It changes constantly during the day, sometimes more brown/grey and other times deep mossy green, it's gorgeous - and different.  I took the plunge and painted the kids bathroom and toilet (which doesn't have a window) as well as the laundry the same colour and it looks AMAZING.  This deeper colour took A LOT of mixing - just saying...

Love, love, love Dulux Natural White, so subtle but you can see the difference when it's next to Vivid White

The kids rooms, including the granny flat/sleepout which is Olivia's room and the study were all painted in Dulux Natural white, a lovely soft chalky warm white = big love.

Then I added a few feature walls - wallpapered for contrast.  Ash's room has 'Woods' by Colefax & Son (she saw it on a wall at Few & Far in Huskisson and fell in love with it) and feature walls in the entry, hall and master bedroom are done in a stunning grasscloth wallpaper imported from America.

Now we are preparing for tiling the bathrooms which should be interesting, can't wait to see the finished results!
