Colourful Rooms

It's exciting to see homeowners becoming braver about using colour indoors - whether it's a whole colourful room painted in a bold hue, an eye-catching feature wall or just pops of colour to add some fun to a space.

There are so many ways to add colour to a room.  Wallpaper, curtains or blinds, rugs, art, lampshades, feature chairs, cushions and carpet all are great ways to add a little oomph to your rooms.

Have you ever thought about painting your ceiling?  If you are lucky enough to have high ceilings then colour can work really well to draw the eye up to a fabulous light fitting.

Colour can have an impact on the way you use a room and how you feel in it.  Choose colours that work for you and compliment your lifestyle and home.  If you have a young family you may stay away from dark oppressive colours and opt for vibrant brights instead.  For a beach house you may go more neutral with brighter accents in the kitchen where all the action happens yet the rest of the home remains calm and relaxing.

White is a perfect contrast when creating colourful rooms.  It makes colour stand out but also provides a place for your eye to rest so that the room doesn't overwhelm.  Start small and work your way up, perhaps a couple of cushions until you feel confident enough to start adding rugs and art, use the colours in the cushion as a starting point and you'll have a colourful room in no time!
