In the Library

Dwell's Library {always expanding}

So why does anyone buy a book. You like the Author? The writing is easy to read & informative? It's relevant? The cover is pretty? The photographs 'get you'!  It looks good on the coffee table? It's overall aesthetically pleasing .... Um yep, CHECK.

Get yourself a book .... read don't scroll ;)

Neutral but nice...

As much as Dwell LOVES colour we also find serenity in a neutral palette.  How calming and yet interesting is the room below?  This is a beautiful and eclectic mix of items, the shell chandelier, organic table, french linen arm chair and country pot with flowers.  The wall treatment is also quite lovely, almost a whitewash effect which gives depth to the wall surface.

The room below is so simple in its colour palette and the introduction of timber, paper and cane give it softness and warmth.

This fabulous room is cool, clean and sophisticated.  Again softness is introduced by adding fur cushions and bringing nature into the space provides a clever colour accent that can be changed season by season as your garden (or florist) allows.

Another simple palette and are you sensing a trend??? Yep, more fur - kinda feeling the love aren't ya?  It also lends a scandi touch to the space.  So much contrast here, rustic table, mid-century designed chairs, textured wall art, modern lamp all against a pure white backdrop.

More fur, more timber, more green - it just works!

And again - you get where I'm going with this right? Can't help myself, I can just imagine the snow piling up outside, a roaring fire and a glass of red… but maybe not near the sofa.

But if you live in a warmer climate the following image may be more to your taste.  Such a peaceful place to relax, I can feel the balmy summer breeze dancing over my skin… the only thing missing - a cool refreshing glass of Sangria...

And if you are wondering where to find gorgeous neutral and earthy homewares you can't go past Verandah Interiors - yes I know they are in Brisbane but locally you could try Deer Willow in Kiama or Haven & Space Berry.

We wish you a very natural Christmas

The next best thing to dining outdoors at Christmas is bringing the outdoors indoors.  And keeping it natural of course.  There is something very calming and relaxing about a natural Christmas as the pictures below show.  Dwell is particularly fond of a pared down natural Christmas which allows us to focus on the details, in particular the food which we love to enjoy with our families and friends amidst lots of love and laughter.  We wish you a very natural Christmas xxx

White Bathrooms

White can be described in many cases as cold, clinical and boring but we at Dwell don't agree.  When done properly (and that's the key) white is fresh, bright and a clean backdrop to a huge range of decorating styles which makes it perfect to use in a bathroom - right?

White bathrooms hold their age so well and becomes warm and interesting when you add texture and colour via towels and accessories.

Not to mention it suits the interiors of so many styles of homes from classic to contemporary, country to coastal and heritage to ultra modern.

The luxury bathroom below could be found in a renovated country home, hamptons style coastal or modern city home.  The herringbone tile pattern is so on trend right now and we love how it contrasts, yet works perfectly with the glamorous chandelier, the heritage bath, art deco table and modern black-edged towels.  It has a subtle feminine feel to it due to the blossoms and colour of bath accessories on the shelf above the bath but could easily become more masculine by replacing the blossoms with twigs, changing the bath mat to black and the swapping the bath accessories on the shelf with black, silver and amber.

Even though the poured concrete vanity below is made of a hard material is seems soft and textural due to the finish.  It adds a focal point and a contrast to the white room which lends itself to an industrial, eco or scandi style home.

Timber basins and a timber stool bring the outdoors in to the bathroom below.  By adding towels in a similar colour the room is saved from becoming too clinical and stark.  A sisal rug would also bring some warmth into this room.

Subway tiles and black joinery in this bathroom give it an art deco vibe with a bit of an industrial feel.

What ever your taste is you can't go wrong with a white bathroom.  Go safe on the walls and splash out with your fittings and accessories, they are much easier to change when you tire of them than your tiled floors and walls are!
