One way to add a kick of colour to any room is to use fabric, mixing and matching prints, stripes, spots and plains. Some designers have a real knack for knowing where to use it, how much to use it and how to co-ordinate it with paint colours, flooring and accessories. Bright and bold floral fabrics leave us a little breathless and we especially love romantic watercolour prints.
Consider using floral fabrics for sofas, lampshades, cushions, drapes, headboards, chairs and ottomans and drawing out one or two accent colours to use for accessories.
We have collected 5 of our favourite bold floral fabrics for you to drool over!!!
It would seem that the trend for anything 'Deer' is here to stay for a while. I's been around a few years now but is showing no signs of slackening off just yet. You either love it, hate it, or just don't get it but I have to admit it has a certain rustic charm. It suits country houses, contemporary homes and very much has a scandi vibe about it. So with that in mind I have collected a few 'Deer' themed items that just could make it into your heart and home...
1. Gentlemen Deer Cushion Cover, choosy.com.au $39
2. Ancona 6 light Antler Chandelier, Schotts Home Emporium $795
3. White Deer Jumper, sagesydney.com.au $45
4. Deer Print (frame not included), ANCHORandVINE on Etsy $7.71
5. Antique Gold Plated Deer Ring, Wildfox $50
6. Red Deer Stag Organic fabric, Birch approx $13 per metre
7. Best Friend Stag Head, Juniper Hearth in Berry, $149
The yellow shop called 'Cabana Jo's' is found off the main street of Berry very near The Tea Shop and Art House Berry - Shop 1, 68 Albert Street. There seems to be a common theme of our favourite shops being layered with finds!
Jo has had her business for over 10 years and has a good eye for trends and the unusual in homewares, decorator items, lighting, candles and jewellery. The range is diverse with locally made & hand-poured soy candles from Mason & Soy to Ahoy Trader, Ourlieu, Noosa Amsterdam chunks, Bam Bam bowls, Cultiver Linen ... and so much more.
The pineapple light with the pussy cat print are beautifully kitsch in a modern kinda way :)
Cockatoos, pineapples, crosses & vases - we love them all - can't help it!
Then throw in shells, palm tree cushions + some Ahoy Trader plaques .... and you've got yourself an interesting, welcoming space
I love the diverse range at Cabana Jo's ... Jo's number is 4464 3490 if you'd like to know how to get your hands on some of these trinkets and treasures.
Oh how Dwell LOVE a day trip! Off we went to Life Instyle and this is what we saw .....
Above is the ever so cool Pony Rider which is stocked locally on the south coast at Roots and Wings
Dwell chatted to Dharma Door with their Fair Trade artisan products from Bangladesh + beyond. These are sold at Art House Berry - and have many uses such as plant containers, vegetable baskets, toy hiders ... the list goes on - just ask Katrina at Art House ... she'll tell you
We then sneaked over to the Ahoy Trader stand, featured above, who are based in another favourite coastal/country town, Byron Bay. They have many funky accessories to decorate the beach /country house - perfect for NSW south coast living - just ask us!
Above is a touch of styling by Mr Jason Grant ... we missed this but I do spy Samantha Robinson ceramics on the table ... they can be found at The Tea Shop Berry
Light up your life with Gia Collectione - ask us how
We also chatted to Retro Print Revival - you choose one of their lamps + then from their very cool selection of fabrics - and there you go - we promise you that your neighbours will not have the same!
Above is one of our favourites ... could have taken a nap here :)
Sheets on the Line are 100% certified organic cotton with each quilt cover featuring their patented Quick Clip System - this prevents the doona inside slipping - oh and less arguments when making the bed with loved ones!
And the finale ..... slightly obsessed with these ... cow hides from Brazil & South Africa with silver blotches from Mooi
We hope you have enjoyed a sneak peak into our day out x
Tucked away in the rear rooms of Il Locale Gelato in Berry is a boutique of handmade funky clothes, polymer clay jewellery and screen printed cushions. The designs are unique, the combination interesting and the people are lovely.
Geraldine Nortje owns, manages & sells her label 'Nortje' in the rooms of Il Locale - loose linen clothes all dyed naturally created with a modern edge. Low crutch pants, hip linen overalls & loose fitting dresses ... and no-one in Berry does similar - welcome to town Geraldine ;)
The creative and 'oh so different' polymer clay jewellery is made by Kerrie Oliver from 'Llyod Told George'. Kerrie has great names for her collections such as 'Lady don't Mind' and 'Out of the Woods' - cute !
And the original, contemporary screen printed cushions are by Kim Raath of 'The Chroma Club'. Kim is committed to a sustainable eco-friendly production process - all the dyes used are water based and non-toxic, they are made in Australia & are unique - buy something no-one else has - dare ya
Introducing the 'Fab Five' - explanation being 'five things Dwell has a crush on this week'. So lets begin shall we? This week it's CUSHIONS, not just any cushion but 5 fab striped cushions - our pick of the summer stripes!
Our first fave is from www.deckchairstripes.com.au a bold little number with 2 directional stripes and at $41 is a great buy! This cushion is available in so many different stripes it will make your head spin!
Next we have the Target Kalais cushion with vertical stripes of natural and navy which weighs in at $20 - also available in taupe/natural.
This little beauty is from Ikea so you can guess that it's going to be pretty inexpensive right? RIGHT! It is a hefty (not) $8.99 an absolute bargain don't you think? Both cheap and cheerful.
My favourite of the five has to be the Bonnie and Neil cushion below but it's a splurge… at $155 this is not one you'll be letting the dog sleep on but what an investment. The colours are gorgeous and I love they way they are applied like giant brush strokes. You have to remember that this cushion is handmade in Australia, made of the best quality linen, feather stuffed and the inks used are non-toxic.
And the final of the fab five this week is the Marcus cushion in yellow from Freedom. I still call this a stripe even if it looks more two tone. The colour is on trend and the price - wait for it…. $23.90 on sale NOW
