Favourite Pink Painted Walls

I have collected images of pink walls to entice and intrigue. NEVER would I have thought I’d have a pink wall! Yes it will initially be a tiny slither of a wall in my office but look out boys if I like it it’s travelling to other parts of the house!

COLORBOND® Shale Grey® and Surfmist®

Pale grey + white = very nice! There is nothing jarring about the combination. It's classic, it's conservative, it's easy on the eye. Below are the Colorbond® colours that have been created for our Australian conditions.

A bit about Dwell South Coast 2016

Our Business - Your Choice

Everything about decorating your home is personal. Do you shop thrifty, buy local, do you like IKEA, is it handmade, is it high end all the way and is it the 'real deal' such as original artwork {see top right of moodboard for local South Coast Artist Becky Guggisberg}. Personally I like to mix it up - oh but having said that i don't buy 'high end'. Anyway it's not about me!

In a nutshell our business is about helping and guiding Clients through the sea of choices in colour, furniture & home accessories to create a comfortable home that reflects them - easy! No it's not!

So what do you, as a Client, choose and what do you buy? You figure that bit out with us guiding you through consultations, receiving our Dwell Decorating Plan or Colour & Interior Specifications Report. Depending on the depth of detail you require & how much time is allocated to your Project, the range of research & travel depends on the cost.  We don't make you buy things - but we have very good reasons for the path we've taken in compiling reports for you & love it when the Client says 'I'm doing it all' !

Palm Leaf Wallpaper

Palm leaf wallpaper is going up on walls all over the country it's a trend we love and hope never fades (along with the wallpaper)!   It is bold, brave and beautiful giving a home that wonderful tropical breezy feel, a bit like being on holiday every day.  It suits many different properties from coastal to country, traditional to modern.  It can be a bold addition to the entry of a home giving a taste of what's to come.  Try it in small rooms for maximum impact or larger rooms with panelled half walls to to tone it down a little.  Here's a few of our favourites...

Home Tour - Chuck & Taz

Dwell have been thinking of a regular ‘Home Tour’ blog for some time.  We follow Chuck & Taz on Instagram (along with 17.2K of you) and noted how many other followers were begging for more images of owner Catherine’s home.  So just being just a short drive away we thought it a perfect place to start!

Located in the quaint little farming town of Jamberoo just 10 minutes inland from the coast it is the perfect combination of semi-rural, town and beach.

The large block had an existing house which was knocked down so that Catherine partner Mitch and daughters Mahala (5) and Indi (3) could build their dream home in the country.

Catherine & Mitch enlisted the help of a draughtsperson to help them design their new home keeping in mind their family, lifestyle and location.

A long lawn runs up to the front steps with the cottage exterior looking modern country with an industrial raw edge.   There are grey weatherboards and fresh white trim, wicker outdoors chairs that scream ‘sit on me’ and a rustic re-cycled brick wall hiding a fireplace to the right adding contrast and texture.

Stepping into the central hallway (which runs the length of the house) doesn’t give too much away at first but on looking closer the wall lights start to set the tone, industrial, rustic yet modern in design you start to get the feel that you are in for something special.

The engineered timber floors are a beautiful deep grey-brown oak, which feel warm and inviting underfoot and walls are painted throughout in Dulux Peplum ¼  giving a fresh modern feel.  The white backdrop means an easy change in décor and accessories should they wish to update their interior in the future.

Entering the master bedroom my eyes dart from the french doors to the brick fireplace then over to the freestanding bath hiding the Ensuite.  It’s so lovely I just don’t know where to look first!  It’s a large space, decadent but cosy - it’s a room you could easily never leave!  And judging by the wee dinosaur at the end of the bed it looks like it's not a room off limits to the younger family members...

The guest bedroom opposite is colourful yet elegant and relaxing with French doors opening to the front deck and views over the front lawn to the escarpment.

The laundry is one most of us could only dream about!  Loads of storage, shaker style cabinetry, open shelving, bamboo benchtop running the length of the room and still enough space to set up the ironing board!  The colour palette is soft white and grey both modern and classic.

Mahala’s bedroom is a cheerful, girly space for the modern miss!  The walk in wardrobe has plenty of storage and the room having white walls gives a great background to pops of bright colour.

Little Indi’s room is a cute and happy space with everything a 3 year old needs to keep entertained!  Lots of books and toys provide colourful accents and the 4 poster bed with its Alphabet Monkey bedding is a great focal point in the room.

The living space at the rear of the house has WOW factor with super high ceilings, stunning polished concrete floors and a feature wall of rustic re-cycled brick.  This entire space has 3 distinct living areas, the chill out seated area, dining and kitchen.  It’s a vast open space full of light with a distinct warehouse feel and is the families favourite space.  Thanks to the polished concrete floors, exposed brick and gorgeous fabric light shades it is welcoming and warm.

A black industrial look staircase leads to a mezzanine area currently Catherine’s photographic studio and semi play room for the girls but Mitch has his eye on this space for a future office (good luck Mitch) and tucked underneath is a cute little office nook.

The kitchen is stunning and simple.  A favourite feature is the abstract tiled Splashback and the oven – a black free standing induction range large enough to cater for an army.

The open shelving displays collections of copper and a walk in pantry big enough for 15 people to party in hides the fridge, dishwasher and there is loads of room for storage, prep and has another sink for washing up.

The living area opens onto a covered patio where Catherine & Mitch have plans to build a BBQ and outdoor kitchen for easy entertaining.

Perched just above the outdoor patio is Catherine’s studio where she designs her range of gorgeous pram liners.  It backs onto a mini forest and play area for Mahala & Indi complete with outdoor blackboard, swing set and sandpit of which Indi is currently obsessed with!

Catherine & Mitch have created a beautiful and happy home full of character and charm.  The most lovely home to entertain family and friends, and for their girls to grow up in.

Knock Knock - More Black

Every now and then you'll see something and say 'I love that' BUT you may not be able to 'have it'. Getting inspired by what you love sometimes can turn your oldd things into something to treasure again

I LOVED THIS LION

So with a door knocker, can of ESP, black spray paint & some spare time I got to work

It's a bit basic but you do need to clean the surface. This brass lion was dusty so I used a toothbrush & a dry cloth to wipe him over. Then with a brush (can use a rag) I applied a coat of ESP - which as the can says dries in 90 minutes. This will help the bonding process. It's brilliant stuff - use it if you are painting tiles

Next step is the spraying. I was outside (not good on a breezy day) ... and away from the house.   My chosen can is in the photo below - I'm sure there's a few to choose from but do ask at the hardware for a spray that wants to stick to plastic, metal, wicker etc so as to use it on more than one project

I choose to spray on a piece of old carpet ... the spray does not 'run' & it's just a nice soft surface

Ta daa ... very happy with the finished product

Next project .... front door knob

Art in Your Garden

Welcome to Yellow

Warmth is radiated by yellow. Inspired by a newly painted house in my home town of Berry ... we have collected some images of grey and yellow. A yellow front door is welcoming, the people are social and they have a community orientated spirit. How nice!

Colours of Autumn Inside + Out

The colours of Autumn are warm and toasty ... I've always loved red regardless of the season. The wallpaper below is from Resene's Wall Paper Library

Image via Resene

It's possible to wait all day for the sun to come out ... and it doesn't! I walked along a country road in Berry yesterday in glorious sun along with man and dog under the blue sky and came across the colours of Autumn. So today the camera has waited at the front door ... and waited and waited. Enough is enough! Off I went and who needs the sun? I was happy to capture these snaps
