What do you love?

What’s your style? Lots of people say they don’t know …. that’s ok! Most peeps know what they don’t like so that’s a good starting point. From stating what you can’t stand you often are able to figure out what you do like even if it doesn’t get a specific style name! Who wants to live in a categorised box anyway!

Coastal Style Dining Chairs

We love our job sourcing furniture for clients.  In 2015 we spent a lot of time looking for just the right pieces for our clients with coastal properties.  Dining chairs are so varied in shape, style, form and function but we found a few that we really loved that suited the coastal style brief perfectly, which is your favourite?

First up… the 'Anita' chair by Matt Blatt.  Dwell loves the contrast of light timber with plush cushioned seating.  At $325 it's the most expensive of our beachy chairs but definitely worth it for a stylish and sturdy designer chair don't you think?

anita matt blatt $325.png

This replica Thonet Bentwood is a great beach house chair and looks pretty schmick painted in a delicious sea foam blue.  Find similar at www.sokol.com.au.

At www.clickonfurniture.com.au Dwell found the 'Antonio' chair, very reasonably priced at $149.  Quite modern and angular, we love how it looks sort of dip-dyed.

We couldn't leave out a rattan chair now could we?  The beauty below is from Freedom Furniture and retails at $199, this is one I could live with and I can tell you it's very comfortable - yes I've taken it for a test drive!

freedom village light rattan $199.png

And lastly there's this little cutie from Domayne, it's called Olivia and is a steal at $109.  I really like how the pattern of the chair looks like seaweed.

Hope you liked Dwells selection of beachy dining chairs, which one is your favourite?

Feature Arm Chair - 5 Favourites

Quite often we have a corner of our lounge room just sitting and waiting for the perfect arm chair to fill the space.  A chair for dad to watch telly, for mum to read or just a feature arm chair to look charming, sexy or cosy depending on your decorating style.  It can introduce colour and pattern to the room in a small dose (until you get a little braver) and add some personality to the room.  Usually choosing an arm chair in a contrasting style to the rest of the furniture in the room really makes it stand out.

indulgy.com.png

It kind of says 'look at me' so it can be a lovely focal point, if you have it placed near windows that have great views it will draw your eye towards the view or place it near your fireplace if you want to draw attention to that, especially if you have a stunning artwork above it and the chair and art work will compliment each other rather than compete if you have chosen the right chair of course!

image via fauxology.com

If you are actually going to use the chair make sure it's comfortable otherwise choose an arm chair that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and compliments the decor of the room.  A feature arm chair can be the starting point for the colour palette of a room and set the theme in motion as can art work.  If using a patterned fabric on your chair pull out a couple of accent colours to use for your decorating say for cushions, throws and rugs.

Here are 5 fabulous feature chairs to get your ideas flowing starting with the pretty chair below, what colours would you take from this chair to use as accents?

'A Corner of Eden' is to be found in Cumbria in the North West of England. Within this county are 6 districts and Eden is one.

I was lucky enough to visit 'A Corner of Eden' in September of 2013 and would say 'stay here' !  There are 3 types of accommodation and we filled them all. There was 16 of us in total and we all had a bed ... if you've ever had to book for this many people you will know how tricky it can be. And what a success 'A Corner of Eden' was for us!

The owners concentrated on being as environmentally friendly as possible during the renovation work over the years; local suppliers, naturally occurring materials, low emissions, up-cycling, re-utilising, recycling, natural products, good insulation, draught exclusion to mention but a few.

Sustainable heat in the barn and electricity throughout, sheep's wool insulation, private water supply and drainage, composting, grow your own, local produce....

It's not possible to be perfect but it is possible to try your hardest which is exactly what they do.

Every room was special .. the attention to detail, the effort to modernise but be creative and sympathetic to the era is evident everywhere. I gave it 10 out of 10 .... so did the other 15 !

5 of the best - Dining Tables

It's time for a new dining table.  Our dutiful and lovely old table has had its share of knocks, scratches and bumps (not to mention nail polish remover, water marks and sun-fade) and now it's time to start looking for a replacement.  I know what look I like (country meets rustic meets french with a bit of industrial thrown in) but where to begin?  A wee bit of research has revealed 5 winning tables, now the decision is which one is up for a fair few years of love and attention?

Early Settler Elm Trestle Table 230 x 100 $1299

glicksfurniture avalon pine and steel 180 x 90 $899.png

Domayne Parquetry Recycled Timber Table 240 x 100 $1799

Pacific Furniture Bordeaux Table 198 x 100 $999

Freedom Furniture Carpenter Table 220 x 100 $999

La Maison Avignon Table 180 x 100 $1049

Dwell's Blue Furniture Fave's

While trolling the internet for inspiration I found this…. a cabinet that is just way too cute for it's own good and set me off in search of more fabulous furniture - blue of course just to work in with Tonya's previous blue blog!

Can't have a cabinet without a cool stool near by, how about the EEIEEIO Twist Stool by Think Outside

For the bolder of you a blue sofa could add a colour punch to your living room, this one is the Karlstad corner suite by Ikea though I see that Furniture One in Kiama has something similar...

ikea karlstad corner sofa korndal med blue.png

How about a fabulous statement chair if you aren't quite so brave, this one below is by The French Bedroom Company but locally you can have one custom made by Kate Malfroy (otherwise known as 'The Chairy Grandmother') of Rapt Upholstery in Jamberoo.

Another great coloured furniture option is a bookcase, you can repaint some you already own just like they do at Real Simple.  How amazing would these look with lots of white accessories and a hint of red or coral?

realsimple.com .png

However another good idea is to keep all your stuff hidden behind cupboards and what a stylish way to do it with this Oriental Cabinet discovered at Raw Space (you could always wallpaper a roadside find to get a similar effect)

oriental blue cabinet rawspace.com.png

but if furniture just isn't your thing then you can always add colour with accessories such as a cushion like this tactile 'Kilim' cushion by Interiors Online

So get creating and decorating - find your colour inspiration and have fun!

Cabana Jo's in Berry, NSW South Coast

The yellow shop called 'Cabana Jo's' is found off the main street of Berry very near The Tea Shop and Art House Berry - Shop 1, 68 Albert Street. There seems to be a common theme of our favourite shops being layered with finds!

Jo has had her business for over 10 years and has a good eye for trends and the unusual in homewares, decorator items, lighting, candles and jewellery. The range is diverse with locally made & hand-poured soy candles from Mason & Soy to Ahoy Trader, Ourlieu, Noosa Amsterdam chunks, Bam Bam bowls, Cultiver Linen ... and so much more.

A Sneak Peek at Our Day Out ~ Life Instyle

Screen Shot 2014-02-14 at 12.30.54 pm.png

Oh how Dwell LOVE a day trip!  Off we went to Life Instyle and this is what we saw .....

IMG_8478.jpg

Above is the ever so cool Pony Rider which is stocked locally on the south coast at Roots and Wings

IMG_8463.JPG

Dwell chatted to Dharma Door with their Fair Trade artisan products from Bangladesh + beyond. These are sold at Art House Berry - and have many uses such as plant containers, vegetable baskets, toy hiders ... the list goes on - just ask Katrina at Art House ... she'll tell you

IMG_8474.jpg

We then sneaked over to the Ahoy Trader stand, featured above, who are based in another favourite coastal/country town, Byron Bay. They have many funky accessories to decorate the beach /country house - perfect for NSW south coast living - just ask us!

IMG_8481.jpg

Above is a touch of styling by Mr Jason Grant ... we missed this but I do spy Samantha Robinson ceramics on the table ... they can be found at The Tea Shop Berry

IMG_8475.jpg

Light up your life with Gia Collectione - ask us how

IMG_8466.jpg

We also chatted to Retro Print Revival - you choose one of their lamps + then from their very cool selection of fabrics - and there you go  -  we promise you that your neighbours will not have the same!

IMG_8469.jpg

Above is one of our favourites ... could have taken a nap here :)

Sheets on the Line are 100% certified organic cotton with each quilt cover featuring their patented Quick Clip System - this prevents the doona inside slipping - oh and less arguments when making the bed with loved ones!

IMG_8471.jpg

And the finale ..... slightly obsessed with these ... cow hides from Brazil & South Africa with silver blotches from Mooi

We hope you have enjoyed a sneak peak into our day out x

Real or Replica?

The Wishbone Chair is a light, sculptural chair - and we love it! It comes in various colours and we have to say various prices too. This chair was originally designed for Carl Hansen and Son in 1949. The real thing costs between $1000 and $2000 depending on finishes including soap, oil, lacquer and paint. I wonder …. is there an element of flattery in being 'copied' worldwide? Does any Designer cop it on the chin and say 'oh well'

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 5.13.05 PM.png

Pictured below is the 'cheap and cheerful' option :)

These look fabulous with your new art work, Persian carpets, bare floor boards and your credit card statement won't set the heart rate fluttering. They cost $295, won't last the distance and are not something to brag about but the bank account is left with funds for a holiday in the tropics.

Radiant Orchid Pantone Colour of 2014

How controversial to be a secret panel, choose a colour, rename it and call it the colour of the year! Is it purple? is it pink? The Sydney Morning Herald said it's 'a purple hue with pink and fuchsia undertones'

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 4.03.49 PM.png

To achieve the Panetone Radiant Orchid 'look' check out Porters Paints. They  have a gorgeous selection of colours  â€¦ above Monkey Magic, Sofia and Lounge Lizard

Home Thyme

While out and about I finally fell upon a lovely homewards shop that I had been hearing a lot about, 'Home Thyme' in Albion Park.

IMG_2621.JPG

Not only do they stock furniture in quite a few different styles they also have gorgeous homewares and I must admit to being quite taken with all the bright coloured accessories such as this yellow striped ceramic canister with wooden lid...

Cushions galore, you should just see the cushion wall, I wanted to take them ALL home!

Metal trolleys - so many uses, don't you love the colour?

And my final pick… the bamboo cake stand

Dwell highly recommends a visit, they are on the corner of Terry and Tongarra Roads, Albion Park or check them out on Facebook or Instagram!
